Microsoft’s challenge: 90 days to beat Google (San Jose Mercury News)

Beat Google? Microsoft’s new Silicon Valley search team ‘” styled as a startup within the giant software company ‘” worked around the clock this fall to make Bing the first major search engine that could tap into America’s stream of consciousness, doing real-time searches of Twitter and Facebook.

    After watching Steve Ballmar’s CES Keynote, I decided to give Bing’s map search a try.

    I found the experience of searching very nice. I also found the street view of my house to be very clean and smooth and more up-to-date than the same view in Google.

    The one thing that I didn’t like and is the reason I avoid Microsoft whenever possible is that when I clicked on the 3D view, I was told that I was using an unsupported browser. I was using Firefox on a Mac. Why can’t Microsoft get past the need to require Internet Explorer?
